They say that a picture<\/a> is worth a thousand words<\/em>, <\/p>\n

but just like words, pictures can be very deceiving; even when they are authentic.<\/p>\n

For example, in the picture below it may look like I am doing an alpha roll<\/a> on my Siberian Husky, and she is showing me some serious aggression.<\/p>\n

The truth is I was giving her a nice scratch and she was grinning.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

She doesn’t usually show such a wide grin so it was truly a Kodak moment<\/em>. If we zoom out and show the picture in context, it is clear that everyone is being goofy and having a good time.<\/p>\n

Below, I flipped the first image and it looks like Husky Shania is about to kill me! <\/p>\n

Seeing is not always believing<\/em><\/strong>, <\/p>\n

and we often misinterpret what we see. This makes it risky to follow dog training techniques seen on television especially physical techniques such as leash jerks<\/a>, alpha rolls, and finger jabs (otherwise called the ‘no-pain’ magical touch<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

This article shows how looking at a single dog picture is not enough to see what is truly going on. When it comes to dog training, context is extremely important, and single pictures or even edited television clips are insufficient to convey all the relevant information.
