Shiba Inu Diary – Sephy’s first experience with nail cutting. It did not go very well because we cut into the quick of the nail and Shiba Sephy started bleeding. We have found that with a Shiba, it is easier to groom nails using a nail grinder rather than a nail clipper. A nail grinder allows us to slowly file down the nail so there is very little chance of hitting the quick.
Shiba Diary – Alpha Rolls
Shiba Inu Diary – Sephy’s first experience and opinion of the alpha-roll technique. Alpha rolls are very risky, causes a lot of stress, and may cause a dog to bite. My attempts at alpha rolls only made my Shiba Inu’s behavior worse, caused him to lose trust in me, and made him resistant to all handling and restraint.
Shiba Diary – Visit to the Vet
Shiba Inu Diary – Sephy’s first visit to the vet. The vet had to muzzle Shiba Sephy in order to give him his shots and a physical examination. At the end of the visit, the vet told us to return Sephy because he had a very unbalanced temperament. I later learned that many Shibas are very sensitive to restraint/handling. In addition, their natural mouthiness and stubbornness make them poor patients during visits to the vet.
Shiba Diary – Sirius Puppy Class
Shiba Inu Diary – Sephy’s exciting first day at puppy class. There were some fun puppies around that Sephy really enjoyed roughhousing with, but best of all there was another Shiba Inu pup! In addition to play, Shiba Sephy also learned to have play-breaks and follow some play rules so that he does not lose control, as puppies so often do.
Shiba Inu Sephy’s Diary
The very beginning of Shiba Inu Sephy’s story. Today, we met Sephy for the first time and took him home with us. Shiba Sephy was very stressed and worried. After all, he had to leave his siblings, mother, and the home that he was born in.
